Last Friday we hosted a birthday party for our little monster and several of his closest canine friends. Yes, you read that correctly . . . a dog birthday party. Apparently we are not the only ones to entertain this idea--there are specialty bakeries that make dog birthday cakes, and even a dog-birthday themed invitation on evite.com A few months ago Ryan saw that a dog bakery had set up a booth at the Farmer's Market. They had very pretty and professional looking dog cakes, but they were approximately $40 each. We love Cooper and spoil him way more than most people spoil their dogs, but there was ABSOLUTELY NO WAY he was getting a $40 cake. Instead, I found a recipe on the internet and baked a dog-safe peanut butter and banana cake with peanut butter and cream cheese frosting. The cake was a hit! The dogs had fun running around in the backyard together, we had fun hanging out with our friends, and everyone went home with an exhausted pup. Birthday party success!
