Annapolis Oyster Roast

Two weekends ago Ryan and I drove over to Annapolis for an oyster roast.  The Annapolis Maritime Museum was hosting an oyster roast and sock burning to celebrate the first day of Spring.  Apparently the sock burning tradition started as a way to welcome Spring by discarding the old worn-out wool socks from the winter.  I think it is nuts to burn perfectly good wool socks at the end of the winter--you might need them again next winter.  Someone pointed out to me, however, that maybe people around here wear their winter socks so much that they are worn out by the end of the season.

The real focus of the event for us was the oysters.  They were dragging them up from the Chesapeake Bay the morning of the event.  They scrubbed them and shucked them right before your eyes.  You really can't get much fresher than that.  We intended to get some photos of us slurping down some oysters, but we got distracted by how delicious they were and forgot.
