Cooper's first trip to the beach

Last weekend we drove to the Marlyand shore (about an hour away) to visit one of the only dog beaches in the area.  It was much smaller than we expected and littered with sticks and bark that had washed ashore in the storms the days preceding our trip.  Despite the petite size of the beach and the debris, Cooper had a fabulous time.  He was a little unsure of the waves at first, but he got used to them in no time at all.

Typically when Cooper plays in the water he really appreciates the fact that he can stop mid-chase for a drink.  We were both curious to see his reaction the first time he took a slurp of the salty water from the Chesapeake Bay.  I knew the water in the bay would likely be less salty than the ocean, since it is a mix of fresh water from the rivers and salt water from the Atlantic, but it must not be very salty at all.  Cooper drank it right up with no reaction whatsoever.

The biggest triumph of the whole trip was the fact that Cooper went into the water all the way up to his chin--that is the deepest he has ever been.  He wanted to get the stick we had thrown so badly that he kept edging out farther and farther.  At one point he even swam a few strokes.

"I don't know what you were worried about, this water tastes fine!"

Normally he will only go into the water up to about mid-chest level.  He really wanted this stick!

Victory!

"That was great!  Can we come back next weekend?"
