As soon as the bar exam was over we got busy packing up the house and finished up some home-improvement projects before handing over the keys to the tenants. We put a lot of our stuff in storage before packing up the POD with the things we planned to take to D.C. The only box that mistakenly got left behind in storage was the box containing our D.C. books and the legal writing books I'll need for my job. What are the odds!?!
The road-trip took about 2 1/2 days. We drove through Arkansas, Tennessee, and Virginia before arriving in the D.C. area. The drive through the eastern part of Tennessee was pretty, but the drive through the mountains in the western part of Virginia was gorgeous!
The strangest thing we saw on the road trip was a couple walking their pet llamas at a rest stop. Ryan spotted them, but we weren't quick enough with the camera.
Scenery in western Virginia--this is not the prettiest part, but you get the idea.
Our home for the next year will be Alexandria, Virginia. Our apartment is a 5-7 minute walk from the metro station and about a 20 minute ride from downtown D.C. depending on which line you take. We opted to live in Virginia instead of D.C. because: (1) our accountant (my mom) advised us that we could save about 5% on state income tax and (2) we would have better access to parks for Cooper.
We'll post pictures of the apartment soon.
