One of the water parks in Alexandria has a dog-day the weekend after they close for the season. You pay $5 per dog and get access to the wave pool and two wading pools, one of which has a sloping entrance so the dogs can run in and out instead of jumping. One of Cooper's favorite things to do is attack the spray from a water hose or romp around in a shallow fountain, but he absolutely refuses to get in the pool to swim. We decided to take him anyway because he loves to play in the water--we suspected he might ease into it if he could walk, rather than jump, into the pool.
At first Cooper wanted nothing to do with the pool--he hid behind a chair! But before long he was running/hopping through the water chasing other dogs and galloping around having a ridiculous amount of fun. Eventually he even graduated to the big pool. He is exhausted, but I think he is smiling in his sleep!
Just getting warmed up
Playing chase
Finally brave enough for the big pool
Tomorrow we plan to attend the Adams Morgan Day Festival, which is D.C.'s longest running street festival. There are multiple stages for live music and booths run by the neighborhood restaurants and shops. It should be a great way to check out the Adams Morgan neighborhood, which is known for its night-life and restaurants.
